I'm not worthy

A few months ago I posted this picture of our junk spare room .....

Then I tidied it up and posted this picture ......

Unfortunately, pretty soon it looked like this again .....

So I decided that we weren't really making full use of the room, and as we hardly ever have visitors, especially ones who stay-over, I devised a cunning plan.

With the aid of one handy husband and the promise that all my yarn stash, sewing paraphernalia and monkees in progress would disappear from the lounge and dining room, I bagged myself a craft room.

But I'm not worthy.

Mess.

I've been off this week, ostensibly to "get things ready" for The Big Day ( ..... next Tuesday) ( ..... Christmas). But have I? Nope.

Have I bought and wrapped all of the presents? Nope.

Have I sorted out that sock and pant mountain that's been looming ever larger in the hall for months, the sock and pant mountain that I curse every time I walk past, the sock and pant mountain that I had to hide when my parents came up last weekend? Nope.

Have I lovingly prepared RGH (who hasn't been off this week) Nigella-type feasts upon his return from his hard-day-at-the-office, dear? Nope. Have I been bunging Turkey Twizzlers from the freezer into the oven instead? Yep. (But honestly, I'm just trying to clear out room in the freezer for ALL THAT FOOD that we'll need because it's Christmas next week!!)

Have I completed any monkee related gifts? Well, obviously I can't comment on that as it would ruin the surprise.

But I have done this .....

That's better

Organised. ..... kinda

a home for everything ..... ooh and coffee and chocolates .....

Stuff

Well, let's just see how long that lasts, shall we? (I give it half an hour) Anyway, as I'm back at work tomorrow and Monday, I really need to get on. And the RBD's and I are off to see Enchanted later this morning ..... if I can just find us some clean socks and pants ......

But just before I go, my next post will be my 200th - I know! - so I think it'll be high-time for another giveaway. Because you know how much I love competitions!

Not jealous of your having a craft room. Nope. Not at all. You hear that Santa? I'm not jealous. I can stay on the good list.

Just ignore the sock and pant mountain, say it's the new decor style, soon to be seen in Elle Decoration. You're just ahead of the times. Soon every home will want one. (I have one)

You could have alternative decorations for Christmas - socks and pants are festive, aren't they???

The room looks great, i have a room in my house like that just minus the crafty stuff, more like your first pics lol
I wanna know the competition, i wanna monkey lol

please put my name in for the competition!!! this person needs a monkeemaker monkee for under her Christmas tree please!

your craft room looks marvy!!!

what is a sock & pant mountain? Is that a British thing?

A craft room all to yourself (well and a few small monkees) is great!! I have been off a couple of days this week and haven't managed nearly as much as I had hoped! Did wrap a few presents but haven't managed to knit anything - oops!!

Your craft room looks lovely. I don't want a craft room at all. Ever. No really. I enjoy filling the conservatory, living room and dining room with so much clutter that it makes me feel phsically sick.
I enjoy not knowing where anything is. I enjoy finding pins in my feet that I hadn't noticed on the carpet. No really. It's true.
Our sock and pant mountain is on the stairs and in front of my wardrobe so I can't get in to my clothes and have to wear whatever's on top of the (clean)washing pile.
Good job my husband likes living with a slut!!!

I meant 'physically' of course. I can't leave bad spelling without an explanation.
I was so excited about the craft room (that I don't want) that I nearly forgot - a COMPETITION!!!!
200 posts? Impressive :)
You'll enjoy the competition - you know you will ;)

You could chuck some tinsel and shiny balls on the sock and pant mountain - an additional Xmas tree!

The less said about tidy craft rooms the better I would NEVER not even for money EVER post a pic of mine!! *blush*

How on earth have you managed to get to 200 posts???? I suppose it's from the olden days when you used to post daily! Looking forward to the giveaway and like Patti - not in the least bit jealous of a whole craft room! Is it going to be an ironically patched monkee giveaway by any chance? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaase!!!

:)

I want a craft room! I want one! *stamps foot and frowns* It looks very nice - good for you. :-) x

A honest to goodness craft room can't be tidy really. Those of us without one *SIGH* must make do with the whole of the rest of the house.
You could always make new socks and pants in your craft room, then it wouldnt matter about the sock pant mountain accumulating elsewhere.

I'm tired just looking at the before and after pictures.

Perhaps a lie down is in order.

Nice job.

well i think that having a beautifully clean and (however temporarily) tidy MONKEE HQ is well worth all the other sacrifices! and surely RGH & the RBD's knew the mission statement (knitted monkee world domination, natch) when they joined the firm?!

in the meantime, perhaps you can take lessons from hugh grant and become "the english(wo)man who went up a (sock-n-pant) mountain and came down a hill??!

oof...that joke sounded soooooo much funnier *INSIDE* my head... (sorry)...mrs. pao's suggestion of festooning the house with sock-n-pant garland was good tho! :)

I find opening my knicker and sock drawer and finding nothing in there is always a good prompt to do a spot of washing......
Craft rooms shouldn't be tidy - it has a door doesn't it?

I am here to testify to "sock-and-pant-mountains" being international - why, we've got at least three here in Maryland/USA!

ps: when I was 15 we went to a Christmas party at the home someone with whom my father had done business. Imagine my shock at seeing their HUGE Christmas tree decorated with only socks, panties, boxer shorts and bras (+ lights of course) I thought it was SO "imaginative"!

Flash-forward 20+ years and I realize that it was just the quickest way to clean the house before having a party : )

It looks great right now and a messy room is a creative room. That's what I believe... so it must be true. What a wonderful blog! I'll be back!

that craft room is a blank canvas; a magnet just waiting to attract yummy craft materials (and chocolate)! And I second mrspao: socks and pants are most festive.

How was enchanted???

mushroommeadows said...

Congratulations on cleaning your craft room!!! It looks lovely! :) (It looks WAY better than mine.) But I know what you mean, it's so hard to keep a craft room clean. Hm..Clean Craft Room...the concept is almost contradictory. :)

Is it messy again yet? ;o)

Sorry you have to work tomorrow and Monday. But on the plus side - hooray for a one-day week this week!

I have one of those craft rooms, the messy one. It was tidy once. Its easier to find things in a mess as you don't have to look carefully without disturbing things. And how can you get inspiration from things when they are in a drawer?!

Ooohhh I'm hoping for a hairy monkee type prize.

Lucykate Crafts... said...

what was enchanted like??, lucy has seen it advertised on the telly and is desperate to go and see it, she's only 5 and thinks she will be a real princess one day!

Wonder if your tidy craft room lasted longer than my tidy kitchen! Which reminds me, I still haven't washed up from tea yet...

Ambaa said...

Your craft room is so beautiful! Oh my gosh, I'm jealous!

Leigh said...

Happy crafting in your lovely room!!!

Leanne said...

There is something about craft areas one minute they are tidy then you turn your back and they look like a nuclear explosion has happened - then again its not that different to the rest of the house.

You have no idea how much better I feel, now that I know that I am not the only one who will do anything else before organizing and cleaning. I thought I was the only one that did this! Thanks for your wonderful blog! Have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year! Cathy (from Ohio)

I think if you cant keep your craft room clean you should be forced to give it to someone who would.

Obviously not me, have you seen the state of my house??

Talking of sock and pant mountains, they wouldnt happen to be (pretend this is in italics) Monkey socks (not not italics)would they? Cause you know I'd be round to help sharpish on that score.

And yes, anyone can play Her Space, My Space, take your photie and leave a comment saying you've done it and lots of made photie takers will stop by and say wooooooo.

Unknown said...

and ignore the typos on that comment, its far too early to be typing and its not fair that you made me do it.

Oh and is the word verification today of 'bobbinstyper'a hint perchance?

Anonymous said...

I'm going to start taking befores and afters of my tidying - just to prove it. Ahem.

Also - sock and pant cull. You know it makes sense :)

sharon said...

oohh yes a black bedroom..whhooohoo..I just LOVED the kitchen and the colour...OMG..was that the last one in the series???

You coming to play with HS:MS??..will look forward to seeing your daily monkee inspired pics.x

I'm very impressed with the craft room! Looks beautiful - that won't last! Not if you're anything like me. I'm in the same school as Lesley. Except I've had to clear a patch for my Mum to sit down in and my second work space in the house has been cleared - very temporarily - to put her bed up. Congratulations on reaching your 200th post!

Have I really not said anything yet? Oh time to fix that error right now! I have been here once or twice throughout the day already (not that that counts as stalking though right?)

yvette said...

Oh I would love to have a tidy craft room, though it would last all of half an hour or so ;0)
I have a blue ikea bag of odd socks, that no-one is laying claims to, so I feel your pain on the socks and pants mountain!
