Dear Michaela,

I just wanted to drop you a quick line to thank you, once again, for the lovely goodies that you sent me recently.

At first I was worried that you "picked" me out of the hat because you felt sorry for my daughter, as I hadn't baked her any of my coveted raspberry and white choc chip muffins for her birthday .....

..... or that you really thought I'd send you a sack of stunt monkees in return ......

...... but when I tasted this ........

...... all my worries and concerns just melted away.

And if these taste as good as they look then I don't give a monkeys how I came to be picked .......

Then, when I looked through and fondled all the gorgeous yarns that you'd very kindly given me (yes, I'm a closet yarn fondler) I thought I'd died and gone to stash heaven ......

(I NEVER buy proper NAMED wools!)

BUT ..... (and I hope you don't think I'm being ungrateful here) ...... but that Vera yarn?

It's not really my style. I gave it a good fondle and honestly, it's just not really "me".

So I thought I'd send it back to you. And you can pop it back in the stash basket, where it belongs.

I hope you won't take offence.

Vera

Possibly the only monkey I will ever name ......

...... although it kind of named itself really.

Anyway. As I say, I hope you don't take offence but I think it's probably best if I send Vera back to you, in the hope that you'll be able to make use of it.

Many thanks and regards

MM

Cute! - although I may be tittering a little in the background about the fact that you posted again today. One whole day away from the blog. Goodness. :)

So you proved you could stay away for one day then? But you know you want to talk to us really don't you? Vera is great - lucky, lucky Michaela - why didn't I think of bribery??? I can't believe how many of us are doing the early morning check to see if Monkey-girl has spoken - you are getting quite a following! I showed a sewing friend your blog the other day - she suggested you write a book as you are so consistently funny - well, what about it then?

Ah, you see, you pretend to be all sassy, but you're a very kind monkee maker really. Congratulations to Michaela!

Oh Monkee Maker, I thought you'd turned nasty for a moment there! But WOW! Vera is lovely and perhaps one of my favourite monkeys! I am planning to knit a monkey (with the help of my boyfriend's kind mum) and a patterned wool could be a possibility after seeing Vera!

ejsqcpfWhen I saw the title of today's post, I thought how kind that you did a whole post just for me, And I don't even mind that everyone else gets to read my letter. Then as I read on and got to the end... oh my! Is Vera really for me? She's fantastic, I knew that yarn would make such a great monkey. She will of course go and live in The Stash Basket, which is rapidly holding less stash and more 'friends'. She may even go on special outings with me (think she'd like Alexandra Palace?). Thank you so much Monkee Maker, she's worth the shoe box any day - I feel I've come off so much better in this deal!

Anybody else going to Ally Pally on the Saturday? - look out for me if so, I'll be the one holding a little monkey!

For some strange reason the word verification thing appeared on my comment above. See, the excitement has clearly gone to my head!

It turns out that I am much, much less kind than you MM - because even though I want to be pleased for Michaela (see how I managed to congratulate her earlier?), the sad truth is this: the more I look at Vera the more envious I become and the more I want to go and mug Michaela in her own home to steal that Vera from her. Sorry Michaela.

I'm not proud of this unkind attitude, and I know it's my own fault for knitting myself a monkey that I recklessly agreed to give away: I'm just not looking forward to impending monkeylessness. I will knit on with Mr Eyeless and see if that cheers me up enough to make me into a nicer person with kinder feelings, but I just don't know that I'll manage it. So Michaela, if you read this - keep your windows locked, for your own safety. It's for the best.

(This long-rambling-comment thing seems to be catching - sorry about that. But you started it.)

Oh Vera is lovely and how brilliant that you didn't have to trawl through baby naming websites whilst agonising what to call her (you can tell what I do in my spare time!). Lucky old Michaela - I think she's going to need a bigger stash basket! But then you're going to need one too with all that gorgeous yarn and as for the chocolate cake - it looks delicious and I bet it didn't last long!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...... I have been a closet reader of your blog for a while now, primarily because of my other half VC, but I have come to love your mad monkey exploits in their own right....

So, I have to say that Vera is the cutest monkey I have ever seen (apart from those made by VC of course, which I have to say when she's sitting next to me!) and I am promptly going to request that she makes me a lesser striped variagated monkey of my own!

Dear VC

I will be moving house just as soon as Vera arrives. Until then, all doors and windows are locked, the burglar alarm is set. I travel with a body-guard at all times as well as super-sharp knitting needles and long pointy scissors. I have also changed my appearance significantly and have boooked in to the plastic surgeon for the final adjustments. Do not attempt to try and mug me - you will fail and will spend the rest of your days in solitary confinement.

Sincerely
Michaela

I do like Vera, I think she looks like a very sophis monkey. I think she's the sort of monkey that would enjoy wearing pearls and eating cucumber sandwiches. Definitely think she's a twin set kinda monkey x
