Haven't you heard? Pigeons are the new monkeys .....

In fact, I'd even go as far as saying that Pigeons may win the fight for World Domination. They have wings, you see, which is obviously a bonus when you're trying to take over the world.

Plus, believe it or not, they're really really cute. Look.

Small + round + fat = cute (Maths!)

When I saw this post on Di's Woollie Wanderings (sorry, I can't seem to get the link to work - Di's pigeon is on 16 January if you want to check him out) I just knew that I needed a pigeon. So I begged pleaded bullied asked Charlie to let me know when she had more available in her Etsy shop, and she very kindly did.

A little while ago this fabulous package arrived .....

Which as you can see contained loads of brilliant goodies. Thank you, Charlie, you certainly pack a mean parcel ..... in a good way!

Amongst all the extras in the box with my pigeon was this amazingly detailed passport .....

Which I was able to use to check that I had the right pigeon ......

Mr Pigeon 019. Check. Welcome to Bristol, Sir. Are you here for Business or Pleasure?

(a little bit of both, apparently)

Also included was this super stylish pattern for a Super Stylish Tank Top for Mr P ......

I haven't made it yet .....

..... although Mr. P seems quite keen that I do .....

And I love this brilliant artwork by Charlie ......

...... Monkee and Pigeon in perfect harmony ......

..... not too sure how Mr. P. feels about that idea though ......

But I told him not to worry. 007 has a fear of pigeons as everywhere we go he keeps seeing them with grotesquely deformed feet. (When I tried to google a picture of it, I couldn't find one - phew! But apparently it's called Pigeon Pox. Really hope that Mr P. won't be afflicted)

(always look after your feet)

We were keen to show Mr. P 019 the sights, so took him for a ride round Bristol .....

..... and through a car wash ......

(aah yes, we know how to live!)

..... and for the obligatory coffee .....

..... and muffin ......

..... but I have to say that he didn't really "get" the whole cafe culture experience and was more keen to check out the wildlife outside ......

We took him shopping ......

(could our day get any more exciting? Possibly not)

..... but unfortunately there was a small incident in Iceland ......

..... when Mr P. inadvertently fell in with the frozen poultry. Cripes. How did that happen??

When we got home Mr. P noticed more of his feathered friends outside .....

.....oops, I think we've been rumbled ......

(..... just checking out his feet ..... yep .... they look to be intact .....)

Mr P. decided he wanted to see what life was like in the wild .....

..... it was cold ......

(By the way .... that last picture? New seed on a different day .... I did mention Pigeon Pox, didn't I?)

Obviously I had to do a collage just for my new chum .....

And now I need your help, dear reader. The name Mr. Pigeon 019 isn't exactly catchy, and knowing that I'm no good at names - hence the monkee numbers - I've decided to borrow Tracy's idea and enlist your help.

Can you think of a good name for my cute new friend?

...... please help me fill in the blank ......

If you can, leave a comment and I'll send some goodies to the person whose name I like the best.

..... get your thinking caps on ..... oh, and enter as many times as you like. This pigeon needs a name and it needs it really quite quickly.

Poor 007 another intruder to contend with. I didn't see 007 with a muffin or a cup of coffee OR in the car!. Do i need to start a petition to Save The Monkey?
I have got the family and everyone in the office reading your blog. You are so funny, I am sure you could write a book about 007 and his adventures.
You could call the Pigeon[intruder] Percy.

That's one cute pigeon. Which is unusual, because I can't normally stand the little blighters!

I can see some pigeon assassination attemts in 007s future though.

As for a name. He definitley looks like an Arthur to me. Reminds me of Arthur Fowl-er *groan* Just be careful he doesn't go bonkers and run off with the Christmas club money ;)

Is the purple thing finished yet? I wanna see the purple fluffy thing!! (I've been taking petulant child lessons from my DD... do you think they're starting to pay off?)

Mr P019 is very cute but I've got an irrational fear of the real ones!! I was in stitches reading this post - your blog always makes me giggle :)

I'm not very good at naming things but how about Percival, Pablo or Peregrine (it means 'wanderer' which seemed quite apt after his adventures in this post!)

Oh so much fabulousness MM - thanks for great photos, a great journey round Brizzle and lots of giggles!!!

He does look to be a very distinguished bird and in the light of the whole takeover of the world thing I feel something military is in order.

Squadron Leader P John Smythe reporting for duty, Sir!!!

(did you see what I did there? Did you? P John/pigeon ??.....)

Have to second the call for taking care of your feet - pigeon pox is just the pits - not that I have it - I'm not a pigeon....

Going now...

He has the same facial expression as Feathers McGraw from The Wrong Trousers (Wallace and Gromit) so I'd have to choose Feathers... just watch out he doesn't prove to be such a notorious criminal! Or perhaps in your house that would only add to the insanity!! :o)

Brilliant!

That cheeky fella is just wicked! I love him - I so want one!!

I was led to believe that all pigeons were called Bernice but now I'm not so sure. I think he looks like a Bert, can't wait to see his tank top ;o)

Do you ever get any funny looks while taking such fab pictures?

tintocktap said...

LOL at Annette's comment re. Feathers McGraw. I can see her point exactly (something to do with body shape, I think). Now the thought of Pigeon McGraw and 007 getting up to tricks together really has the mind boggling. Forget the competitive thing - 007 and Pigeon McGraw as allies - a scary thought!

Kitty said...

Cute pigeon -- don't normally like them since they tend to use my car as target practice :-(

Played around with anagrams of 'pigeon' for his name ... One-pig, Ignope, Oeping, Ginope, Opigne, Gone-ip, Pingoe. But my favourite anagrams are either Nige-po (as in Nigel without the 'l' and po sounding poo) or Pongie.

Colin, he has to be called Colin. A dignified name that suggests a razor sharp wit hidden under that cool exterior!

I only found my way to your blog last week and I'm loving how moody 007 is! I can't wait to see how he's going to get on with his new feathered housemate...such drama!

Cheers!

How cute is that Mr Pigeon 019!! I NEED one!!! ... But maybe rather a knitted one... now that I've mastered the DPNs, I might have a go... Oh dear, I'm off on one again and think I can actually make up my own pigeon pattern... MM, what are you doing??? Lol.

As for a name... I'm rubbish with names (just ask my children lol, they have to live with my choices)... Why not stick with Mr P019? Numbers all the way chez MM :D

I think I also need a pigeon! He wouldn't have to fly far, just 20 miles south to Weston :)

I'm afraid I can't beat Lesley's name - Squadron Leader P "John" Smythe - too clever!!!!! (and she didn't pay me to say that!)

I love Charlie's pigeons and desperately want one too! She was very kind and sent me her toadstool crochet pattern to celebrate my new skill but I'm going to need a bit of help as I can't "read" crochet yet!!!

More marvellous photos by the way. When is the book coming out?

Did you know that pigeons are Spitfire's of the bird world....so with that in mind what about Douglas after Sir Douglas Bader....or perhaps Biggles??

Finally forced to de-lurk....Surely he's a Walter as in Walter Pidgeon( 'Mrs. Minniver''Meet me in St. Louis' etc.)or am i showing my age? I also like Gigibird's suggestion of Biggles. He could be Walter Biggles Pigeon..now there's a tongue-twister.

I'd say it has to be 'walter' pigeon.

I have only just found you and your monkey( and now pigeon) and you make me smile every day, thank you!
and now I need a pigeon of my own!!

Rosie said...

oh no, I've fallen in love again (please don't tell my husband). that is one cute pigeon, and with his very own tank top pattern, too. But I dare you to call him STOOL (as in stool pigeon, not as in excrement, although having been pooed on by the occasional passing pigeon....)

Di said...

Mine has a great name - but I guess they can't be called the same thing! His name is Poop - Pigeon Poop!! The inane childishness of it all just makes me giggle everytime I think about it!

If it can't be poop I like Pie (above) or Woodie - Wood Pigeon or Dove so he can think he's moved up in the bird hierarchy - he looks a little like a collared dove!

I guess I'll need to get my pigeon out on a little journey!!

Di said...

I meant to say - if a post on my measly little blog can generate 4 pigeon sales for Charlie then I wonder what your beautiful post can do for her sales!! Really must get the sweater knitted! Poop has been feeling the cold!!

the vicious chicken said...

Looks like Di has beaten me to it as I was going to suggest Woody. My other option was Hercule, because he's got a lot in common with that Belgian detective... slightly portly gentleman... kindly demeanour... beady little eyes for picking up on tiny clues... it all adds up.

Failing that... Sergeant Dinsdale.

I'm not usually a fan of pigeons but this one is one cute pigeon, my son suggested beaky. good luck x

Elaine/Muddling Through said...

Definitely "Cuthbert", sounds distinguished, doesn't it? And then you could call him "Bert" or "Bertie" as well. Whenever I see pigeons I always think of Bert of Sesame Street, who loved pigeons and sang a song, "Doing the Pigeon".

Your little pigeon reminds me of the Wacky Races Cartoons that my children used to watch. www.hotink.com/wacky/dastrdly/index.html
He could be named Yankee after Yankee Doodle Pigeon ....all together now...catch that pigeon, catch that pigeon.. ???
I too think a monkee story book would be a great idea.

WOW! What a great post :D It's fab to see Mr.P settling in in, eyeing up the fit birds in the garden and I LOVE his photo collage. Although I've been giggling away at the photos (as usual... German flatmates must think I'm a lunatic)Mr Pigeon 007 is now jealous that I never take him out for coffee or make artistic montages of him.
I think name-wise as a tribute to Bristol's most famous suspension bridge designer you should make him a little beard and call him Isambard Pigeon Brunel. It sounds distinguished, don't you think?

well, i had "feathers mcgraw" in mind...but a couple of people have beaten me to it! (i *LOVE* homer, capt. peacock and especially arthur FOWL-er too though!)

for my own suggestion, i'm going to go with "smidgeon the pigeon" --fun to say and he IS quite small! it's a bit rubbish as names go, but i've already named a car and a sock monkee this week, so i'm no longer turning in my best work, i fear! whatever he turns out to be called, he's CUTE as the dickens!!! (...and that passport!!!!!!!) :

I wondered at first how a pigeon would cope surrounded by so many monkeys...but then I spied the twinkle of knowledge in no 19's eye and it occured to me that perhaps he flew over from Africa and PERHAPS he was the pigeon that helped out Jane Goodall with all her chimp research (pigeons are known for their amazing monkey knowledge you know!) so I think THE perfect name is Goodall...p'raps shortened (in a long way) to good-ole pigeon :-)

On the other hand I think i may have been sewing cupcakes for too long and it may have addled my brain box!

whatever he's called he is one cool pigeon :-)

Blimey, I'd never thought I'd see a pigeon I thought was cute.

I second/third the suggestion to call him Pie - especially with today being "Pi" day and all (3.14 if you're American, which clearly I'm not, but if they WILL insist on writing their dates the wrong way round... )

Also, just wondered if you've ever seen this website....

I think the pigeon's name should be Colin - after the adorable bartender at the Paris Ritz's Hemingway Bar. My girlfriends and I have flown in from California and are doing a great job of spending all our euros on Colin's amazing cocktails. I think naming a pigeon after him is only fitting.

That is an awfully cute pigeon. It looks as if he could get up to a lot on the sly, though.

Well, I was going to say Poirot, after Hercule Poirot, but I see VC has beaten me to that reference.
