Spam and other comfort food

Can we talk? About Spam? I'm not keen on it. Not this type of Spam .....

..... which I'm sure is lovely ..... especially deep fried in batter ..... mmmm, fritters .....

No, the other type of Spam. The bad Spam. Is it just me or is anyone else completely hacked off with the amount of Spam emails, particularly rude ones, that pop into their in-box on a regular basis?

I currently have 30 of these emails sitting in my bulk folder, and it seems that most of them should be directed at a man who either wants to increase the girth of one particular part of him, or is maybe having "timing issues" that need to be resolved.

And just what is it that Mr Hamid Essa wants to send me from his desk? A leg?? And if I accept something from his desk, won't I then have to send him something from mine - just to be polite? Mind you, I do have an inordinately large amount of paperclips accumulating ..... maybe he'd like some of those.

I usually just delete these spam mails, but it is frustrating when you think "Yay, I've got mail!" and it turns out that you haven't. Not the kind you want, anyway.

Moving on to the comfort food ..... I bought this book at the weekend ......

..... mmmm, mfort food ......

Anyone who has read this blog for a while will know that I don't won't can't cook, but for anyone new reading, have a little look at how the great muffin making debacle of 2007 turned out and you'll be up to speed.

So I think that secretly, the real reason I bought it is because the words and picture on the front cover are flocked .......

...... which I think is quite comforting in itself .....

And there are some lovely pictures to look at ......

So although I haven't made any New Year's resolutions, if I were to, it would be to make some a couple at lease one recipe from my new book.

RGH also bought one ......

But he can cook, so does he actually need it? I mean, do you really need a recipe for this .....

..... even I can manage a fry-up. Of sorts.

I'm hoping that he'll whip up this shortly ......

..... although I'd like a lot more gravy with mine, please.

And I'm quite envious of the old snap-shots in his book, such as this one ......

..... which spookily I'm sure I've seen before, and the girl on the second right looks just like one of my Aunts.

So, a foodie post from me today, with no knitted monkey content. But how about looking at some other people's instead?
If you haven't already seen these, why not check out Leanne's monkey, Mel, who is going to become the most sun-tanned monkey I've ever seen, Kaz has knitted a gorgeous pink monkey for her beautiful new niece (she's knitted lots of others too - her needles must be on fire!), and Tintock Tap made a rather handsome blue one for her son. I think I need to cast on a blue monkey now. Immediately.

And Jennifer, who hasn't got a blog, sent me some lovely pictures of "Travel Monkey", who went on a trip with her niece in America.

Here he is, somewhere in Virginia .....

..... and ordering fast food .....

Isn't it great to see so many monkeys made of knit bringing joy and happiness to the world? AND SLOWLY BUT SURELY TAKING IT OVER ...... MWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA ......

Mmmmmm, lots of yummy looking food there. I'm sorry, but I did a tiny titter at your cooking exploits - the muffins looked fine, but what was the 'creation' which cooked sideways? :-O And thanks for the links to other crafty blogs - I have bookmarked. x

Super foodie shots there but you still should include some of your own monkee madness for all of your friends! Those other monkees are lovely and the new photo of the little baby with her pink monkee friend is gorgeous! Lucy x

P.S. plenty of male-spam-mail here too!

I don't know how you guys keep getting so many interesting spam emails. We don't seem to get any spam - I'll have to ask my resident computer engineer what I'm doing wrong!!
Great food shots, especially that chocolate cake - mmmmmmmm!
I loved the monkee links. I saw Kaz's pink one the other day and feel a need to reproduce it!!
I quite liked your never ending muffin - ever read the Magic Porridge Pot? (at least I think that's what it's called).

I get thoses spam mails...in fact most of me emails are spam, I just delete them without opening them. They are very annoying! I've been stuck at home for weeks now, and get quite excited when I think I've got mail, very disappointing to find it's just another something unreadable from China or Nigeria...be wary of opening them though, I've also had my bank account emptied recently, and THAT was no fun at all to sort out. Oh yes, I never open spam now!

If I tell you that I don't get a lot of 'those' e-mails, I probably jinx it and I get back to a overflowing inbox... So I won't say a thing... LOL.

Yummy yummy food shots though :D Not that I would be tempted in any shape or fashion to reproduce any of them... As long as there are microwave meals, the microwave cooks!! Or other people who like cooking and offer to do it for me... :D

Off to check the monkey links now... :)

I won't feel so bad now about the piece I was creating last night that Blogger ate but will cherish your efforts with every word I put down.

Heading off to look at more monkee links - have been following Leanne's primate's adventures for some time so need an updtae.

BTW have you mentioned cleaning instructions for Le Sac du Primate previously? My poor old monkee bag gets so much use he is in need of a shower and shave!

Hey! I recognize the mountain ridge behind Travel Monkey. Shameful to be so close and not call or stop by.

Regarding the email inflow: ust wait until Mr. Obitjuiseexue contacts you to let yo know that your long lost relative has died (sorry for your loss) and your now stand to inherit $1,000,000 (good job you). I've semi-solved the problem by having two email accounts: one address is used for anything that requires an email address to register, the other is used for "real" email.

Looking forward to reading about the culinary delights soon to emerge from your oven/slow-cooker/frying pan/take--out bags.

About SPAM (the supposedly edible type) - do you know what SPAM stands for? No?

Ready?

Are you near a loo?

Flocking hell!! I'd have bought the book just for the flock too and instead of cooking I'd sit stroking it. How do those books get photos like that, my versions are more splodge!

Thanks for the linking, I love the colour of tintock tap's one too.

I've still got 2 and a half monkeys to knit before I can do one for me.

Happy Tuesday xx

It should be forbidden, you know(showing pictures of cake in your blog so shortly after Christmas, that is)... Is it just me, or does other peoples jeans shrink over Christmas as well?? Must be something wrong with my washing machine (or the water, maybe?)!!

Oh, and I don't get ANY mail.. not even spam! :/
(not that I really WANT spam, I just think it's odd that I don't GET any..)

I'd missed the Muffin Debacle post (don't think I read you way back then). When I saw what 007 was stirring, I thought, "uh, oh". Sorry!

At least you can procure RaWCC muffins locally!

Oooh, mfort food - my fave :o)

I'm a sucker for a cookbook with beautiful piccies. And who says we actually have to make any of the recipes? I think that admiring the pics (and stroking the flocked covers, where applicable) is quite enough. That way, we won't mess up the glossy pages (and/or flocked cover) with nasty food stains.

Although, that said, an alternative is to put the book in a room that is far away from the kitchen (and thus all staining food), and then run back-and-forth betwixt recipe and kitchen while you're cooking. A tactic I might possibly have been known to employ on occasion in the past.

Thinking back, it probably wasn't the best method. You live and learn :o)

Love your blog! Thanks for the links I came here via Tintock Tap. You are right I get plenty of man spam not sure why?

When I first opened my hotmail account I used to get hundreds of spam emails until I twiddled with the settings and upped the filter to as high as it could go....I still get the odd one but the numbers are managable....on my main BT email address I get a few but before I press delete I press block and it works....
Now for your lack of enthusisam in the kitchen department....if you really want to produce lovely meals you can as there is no BIG SECRET about cooking - some are better at it than others but as a rule anyone who wants can make a half decent meal. I recommend a timer and a really reliable cokery book like a Delia Smith....

I keep getting notices in my strandsofbeads email box that I've won the Irish Lotto. Very odd. Okay, I am officially salivating. I haven't had a fry-up since, umm, 1991? The Husband is a vegetarian, so we occasionally get veggie sausage for breakfast, but it just isn't the same...

LoveAnna said...

I'll have your paperclips! Being a teacher-y type (ha!) I use an insensible amount of paperclips and reprographics never give them back.

Mm mm, 'mfort food. Just yummy, although at first I thought the addition to the sausage and mash was tinned spaghetti! My onion gravy looks more gravy-ish than that (assuming it's supposed to be gravy?)

P.S. Plenty of dodgy spam here too. If I was male I could be a legend by now!!!!

monda-loves said...

funnily enough i was just reading the titles of all the spam emails in my inbox to Mr Monda today. Iam such a child as I laugh at all of them.I have a spam filter at work which is marvellous - it catches all those emails which you mention, and of course I have to check them all to see if they are really spam and have a little snigger to myself at the same time. These spammers really have nothing better to do, it's
a shame their lives are so empty that they feel the need to try to annoy other people to get their kicks.

Haven't much been in the mood for cooking myself lately - we had more bubble and squeak tonight!

Yes, spam is pretty nasty. :( I mean, the kind of spam that you get in your e-mail because I pretty much like the fake meaty kind of stuff...just like you. YUM!

Oh your monkees are so cute!

Hi MM today we had 214 emails, 4 of which were for us. The rest were SPAM and like you i could have enhancements for both Male and female or have fake watches, brilliant diamonds and several phising emails. I don't open them, those were just the titles. We also have two different emails one for anyone who might send SPAM and another for personal mail.

Those muffins looked tasty, love the cookery book too. Thankyou for the monkey business at the end. I was worried for a minute there that we weren't going to get any monkeys Jane x

Patti said...

Any recipes for SPAM in you mfort food book? Thought not. SPAM is many things, but I don't think it could be comforting.

Though I suppose the other kind could be very comforting to a man with very small bits.

Leigh said...

I am with you regarding the spam! Normally, I just ignore it. My But, today one hit a nerve. It was about crows feet, now I taking this whole thing personally!

oops, that should read...now I am taking....

Got the hubby to look at this post he misses english food poor love. I'll have a slice of that choccy cake.

personally, i agree that anything with cool graphic text AND flocking is worth buying JUST FOR THAT...but...even us non-cooks have a duty to *help* in the kitchen: in my case that means greedily flicking thru both flocked and un-flocked cookbooks and leaving drool stains on the pics of my favorite dishes so that the clever one who can make stuff without starting fires or poisoning anyone will know what to make next!!! :)

(according to LHJ this is a BIG HELP! no, i swear, he truly thinks that PLANNING meals is the hard part! i'd correct him on this point, but it does seem rather rude to rob a man of a deeply held BELIEF, now doesn't it??!)

(ps: lemme know what night is bangers-n-mash and i will be happy to turn up and "help" YOU ...to not have any pesky leftovers to tidy up!!!)

Spam????...is that the same as pek chop pork that my grandad used to fry in crispy slices when I was a youngster..??pek chopped pork for brekfast, dinner and tea;0)
all washed down with a pint of iron bru..;) then gorge on a whole bannoffee pie which I may slop down my top.........mmmhhh..attractive.x

I'm getting spammed with very similiar messages and no matter how I try to filter then automatically into the spam file they keep coming up with ways to get round them, goodness knows where they've suddenly all come from and why they think I want to 'increase my girth/length......!!!' I'm also getting an incredible amount of spam blog posts which is very upsetting when I see the number of comments only to be sadly disappointed!
