Monmouth and the Mountain

Recently RGH and I had a day off together, and spent the day in Monmouth. He wanted to do some of this ....

.... up and down some big hills in preparation for a race he's taking part in this weekend.

007 and Greg wanted to go too ....

.... but they weren't allowed as they'd have slowed him up.

Greg even tried to disguise himself as a water bottle but that didn't work either ....

There he goes ....

Which left me with about 3 hours of unhindered retail therapy and wandering around the historic town with a couple of knitted chums ....

It really is amazing quite how much of a nutter you feel when you're doing this kind of thing on your own .... hence me only taking one photo all morning (plus, my hands were too full with all those bags).

Later on we met up again at Symonds Yat, which is a beautiful place with fantastic views .... and a rather lovely pub ....

.... where we enjoyed a shandy ....

Well, the monkee did, RGH enjoyed a nice cup of tea after all his exertion
....

And we would have gone canoeing .....

.... but apparently Greg is afraid of water .... (phew!)

Luckily, he's not afraid of Pizza, which was our next stop ....

.... and neither is 007 ....

There are some very big hills around Monmouth (just ask RGH), but there aren't any mountains that I'm aware of. There is one at my house though. I've mentioned these kinds of mountains before, and sadly another one has erupted here. Possibly the biggest one yet ....

You're probably thinking 'Pah, big deal, that's just some pants and socks in a carrier bag'. Well, you're wrong.

This is some pants and socks in a carrier bag ....

.... and so is this ....

.... and this .....

.... but this? ....

.... this is the mother of all carrier bags full of pants and socks ....

I asked RBD2 what she thought it would be worth to sort it all out for me, and I started the bidding at two whole English pounds. She added a zero. After she'd finished we compromised .... nearer my end of the fiscal scale ....

£5 for a job well done .... Thanks. RBD2 .... same time same place next month?

Definitely money well spent M.M.

I asked Pr.C-W to get the odd sock bag just now and she came back saying she couldn't see it under the mountain of (clean) washing. So I am right with you on both the sorting required of washing and use of slave labour!

I live near to Monmouth 007, you could have popped in for a slice of cake and a cup of tea...and maybe a photo or too?
Which pub did you go to at Symonds Yat? The Saracens Head? Its a fantastic pub (I used to work with the owners wife)and just across the river there there used to be an Old Peoples home where I worked. I really should go and visit the Forest soon, I do miss it.
How much would RBD2 charge to come and sort out my washing, ironing and infact the whole house?

Wonder how long it will take my oldest to work out she could get paid for folding socks and pants - I better make the most of it while I still can!! Is 5 still classed as child labour? ;o)

Tell the Monkee to switch over to cider - much nicer than shandies!

Ack - I hate sorting out the laundry. I never quite seem to get it all put away. I hadn't thought of using carrier bags to file it in :)

Monmouth is a lovely place and Symonds Yat is gorgeous. We camped near there last year...on a very wet and soggy campsite with very miserable staff.

My faith has been restored now that I know you can't do your monkee photo shoots solo!! I thought I was just terribly inhibited....it's all down to the incompetence of my lips....

So glad to see that Greg is still alive after the balloon-party-incident. His water-bottle disguise almost had me fooled!!

there's bound to be a hilarious joke here involving "the englishman who went UP the sock and pant hill, but came DOWN the sock and pant mountain" ...but i'll be darned if i can come up with it! i think it might be the carrier bags that are throwing me off...or the bicycle...hmmmmm... :)

ps: L5 sounds pretty decent to me...does RBD2 by any chance do bathrooms...and enjoy travel??!

I've a question Missus - why is it only pants and socks (whether clean or not). Does your family not wear shirts or undies?

I'm just askin'

Well what Id like to know is how many feet all told your family has? Or, are you a family of milliepedes?

And just think, how many sock monkeys you could make from that lot!!!

hahaha I would never think that you're a nutter, taking pictures of your little friends all by yourself. :)

Hmmmm, interesting! Little Dotty Locket has been trying to work out ways to earn pocket money - think you may be onto a good one there (only with a lower fiscal reward as we don't - and probably never have - own as many pants and socks as you!)

Love the pigeon as water bottle shot! (I've held a real Pigeon Loft pigeon now so I consider myself part of the eleite!)

Wow! Lots of clothing! And I can't believe I'm jealous of a monkee and a pigeon... they seem to get out more than I do!

Well I had imagined how people would look while you were taking pics of 007 and Greg, maybe you can capture one next time. I have to do all the washing and sorting here as my little m&m's are too little to sort, not to be bribed mind you and the big guy well he does the ironing so no sorting and folding for him ...

I don't envy RBD2 :S
Looks like a lovely, sunny, pizza-filled day. You spoil those woolly creatures. Muffins, pizza, canoeing...they get out more than I do :)

p.s. Mr.P got home safely but the woollysaurus only narrowly escaped kidnap by LL!

Are you married to a centipede?

I don’t understand why you have so many knickers and socks?

Do you take in washing to pay for your muffin habit?

you have a lorra lorra pants and socks there!
I hate to say it, but 007 and Greg have more of a life than me. I am jealous. :/
