The trouble with living with a fit bloke .....

..... is that sometimes he likes me to do fit things with him. Like cycling. Or walking. Or cycling. And when you're not really that way inclined ...... if, say for instance, you list one of your hobbies as "sitting down"; sometimes - just sometimes - it can make you a tad ratty.

Take last Sunday morning. I'd just done my regular early morning blogging and had slid back into bed for a session of warming my cold tootsies on the heater that is RGH.

But before they'd even started thawing he was out of bed saying "It's a lovely morning ...... shall we go for a cycle?"

Me (having foolishly thought I'd be safe this weekend as just the day before he'd put in nearly 40 miles of proper cycling. ie. without me holding him up) : "No way!"

RGH : "How about a walk?"

Me : "Get lost!" (Note to my Mum : I didn't really tell him to Get Lost. I know that's not the way to talk to your husband) (Note to everyone else : I really told him to Get Stuffed) (Hormones. What can I say?)

RGH : "You can bring a monkey and take hundreds of photos along the way"

Me : "No! Now get back here and warm my feet up (please)!!"

RGH : "We could stop for coffee and muffin on the way back ....."

Me (desperately fighting my way out of the duvet) : "Throw me my pants!!" (and for any Americans watching, I didn't mean my trousers)

Anyway, after that little too-much-information snippet (and sorry if I've put you off your breakfast), my mood wasn't great. I was only in it for the muffin. Still, I picked up 007 and off we went.

First of all he made us walk up this Telly Tubby hill ......

(I realise that that, in itself, doesn't look too bad.)

But then he suggested we walk to that tower in the distance .......

Well, I say "we", but most of the time 007 travelled like this ......

..... or this .....

...... or this .......

(Hmm. I think someone may be missing having a small child to give shoulder carries to)

Obviously the monkey and I tried to hide ......

...... but unfortunately that tree trunk wasn't big enough for both of us (so I let 007 have it)

Eventually I made it to the top of another hill, with 007 shouting encouragement all the way ......

007 :

We stopped for a breather at the top .......

...... and messed around for a bit .......

Until eventually we got there. This was as close as we could get ......

Shame really, as I quite fancied the idea of 007 doing a bit of a King Kong from the top of the tower. And where's that pesky bag of stunt monkees when you need it?

On the way back we went scrumping ......

...... but 007 didn't really like the healthy flavour of apple ......

(I assured him that in it's purest form of fermented fizzy apple juice, it's really quite pleasant)

And when we spotted the size of these conkers ........

007 was after them like a flash!

Now normally I hate tangle-weed in our hedge, but this looked quite sweet .......

..... and this looked even sweeter ......

FINALLY we got to Coffee #1 where I spent a good few minutes stroking my muffin .......

...... and can I just point out that I didn't do this ......?

(I merely took the photo)

And the worst part of it all? I had a really nice time. Just like he knew I would. But that's not to say I want to do it all again next Sunday, ok? (Apart from the coffee and muffin, natch)

A couple of other things ........

Thanks so much for all the lovely comments about my daughter's birthday, we were chuffed to receive them. Well, she wasn't that chuffed that my fears about a boyfriend were confirmed and worries that she may not be allowed out until she's 21. Or possibly 25.

And do you remember Pudding Padding? Gu. Reduced at Sainsburys. Hurry.

I'm sure there's some sort of knitted chastity belt you can make for her isn't there? So glad 007 had a lovely walk. It looked a very long way. Oh and be careful about saying your favourite hobby is sitting down, RGH will only go out and buy a tandem. Mind you, at least you could knit while he does all the work then...

Tut, tut, mentioning the unmentionables at this hour of the morning - and on a weekday, too! :)

Gu cheesecake looks to die for. As an aside, do you realize that they don't sell bacon crisps in the U.S.? (Of course, they don't sell "crisps" at all, they sell chips. Still, no bacon chips, either.) I could do with a packet right now...

Thanks for the morning hilarity fix! The photo of 007 hiding in the log and the thought of you trying to join him had me laughing out loud. Obviously I am far too polite to laugh at the unmentionable thing. (P.S. they call trousers pants up here too - very confusing!!!)

Looks like I need to knit me a monkey to help me enjoy our autumn walks more!
I agree about the Gu puds - our favourite is the Lemon Cheesecake and I have more ramekins than I care to mention. I suppose I could recycle but they're too pretty. Mmmm - may have to pop to Sainsbury's for some choc ones - in the name of research of course! Just found your blog & it's great x

Methinks the daughter perhaps should be worried. Ours isn't getting out until 27 or so. Maybe they could be penpals to while away the lonely hours ;o)

That 007 - he's a card! I love the joyful muffin-inhaling shot (although I worry he might have choked. Have you checked he's ok?) However, the shoulder-carrying pic creeps me out - RGH looks like he has no head!!

But most importantly: thanks for the heads up about the cut-price pudding padding. I'll be sneaking them onto the shopping list immediately (it'll be something to cheer myself up with while I'm waiting for your next blog post on this ridiculous reduced-frequency regime. Have you reconsidered that yet? Have you? I know this may sound like harrassment, but it's your own fault for being too funny - some of us need the giggles to get us through the day, you know. So think on.)

Yep, pudding padding - check! I've got myself a rather nice plum and pear crumble duo :) I did see something that made me think of you whilst I was in the emporium of Gu - they have got white chocolate and raspberry loaf cake mixes which you bake inthe paper case they provide. Usually those things are pretty easy as you only need to add water and heat!

Your blog cheered me up on a very very tiring day! Thank you!!!

OK, you win, no more bullying about blogging every day. Sorry. Although I still maintain it's your OWN FAULT for having such an ace blog.

Are you telling me you ate both your Gu's? Sensible girl, well done. If you leave one it'll only spoil (or get nicked by someone else). That's always been my philosophy, anyway...

Sounds like truly a wonderful day that you had with your husband and monkey. Your husband's pretty genius to be able to lure you out of bed. :)

Mmm, picked up a pear and plum crumble set in JS only the other day... funny, because I'd been eyeing them a couple of weeks ago but put them back because they were too expensive. Yum. And free ramekins, too - what a bargain.

I LOVE the scrumping shot, and the fact that 007 has his own monkey-faced bag to travel in. That walk does look lovely... I know we didn't really have a summer, but god I love autumn!

I actually allowed my boyfriend to come to the gym with me one day to "show me what I was doing wrong" :( Not a good idea. Yes, I am also attached to a very fit man and he thinks it should be no problem for me to run on a tredmill for forty-five minutes every day.

Your walk looks like a much more pleasant excursion. Although, like your muffins, I was rewarded with my favorite Chinese food after we left the gym (so much for all that tredmill running)
